Watergate Crisis (Scandal), history homework help – Excelsior Writers | excelsiorwriters.com
Excelsior Writers | excelsiorwriters.com

During the Watergate scandal in 1974, many policy pundits wrote columns demanding that President Richard Nixon resign from the presidency because he was, in their view, clearly culpable for the Watergate break-ins. Not all pundits felt this way, however. Click here and here to read articles that offer differing views of President Nixon at the height of the Watergate scandal.

Complete the following for this assignment:

  • Step 1: Summarize the arguments made in each of the two articles regarding the conduct of President Nixon. How might each of the author’s views impact the reader’s understanding of the Watergate crisis?
  • Step 2: Describe how the Watergate events changed American views toward politics and politicians. In your view, how did these events change the press coverage of politicians?
  • Step 3: Speculate about how the Watergate event coverage might have been different (better or worse) in the age of social media and smartphones. Would it have lasted as long? Why or why not? Are these innovations in technology helpful or harmful to the way that people understand current events?

Fantasy Presidential Campaign Activity – Excelsior Writers | excelsiorwriters.com
Excelsior Writers | excelsiorwriters.com

In this activity you are going to apply what you have learned this week about policy as well as apply what you have learned in this course so far to create a basic presidential campaign plan.

Imagine that you have been serving the past few years as the governor of your home state or a U.S. Senator representing your home state. You have done great work and face no challenge in winning the nomination of your party to run in the General Election. In your campaign plan, please address the following:

Part 1: Campaign Details

  • What is your home state? Mississippi
  • What is your political party? Democratic
  • What is your campaign tagline or slogan? Almost all recent presidential campaigns have had a theme song. For example, in 1992, Bill Clinton used the song,” Don’t Stop,” by Fleetwood Mac. In 2012, Republican nominee Mitt Romney used the song, “Born Free,” by Kid Rock. What is your campaign theme song? Why did you select that song.
  • Select someone to be your Vice Presidential Running Mate. You can pick anyone that would eligible, per the Constitution, to serve as President. Why did you select this person to be your vice presidential running mate? How do they help improve your chances on winning the General Election?

Part 2: Your Issues

  • Select and describe two (2) domestic policy issues your campaign is advocating.
  • Why did you select these domestic policy issues to focus on? Use polling data from a reputable polling source such as pew research to support your decision.
  • For each domestic policy issue write a simple one sentence “elevator pitch” that you would use to easily communicate your position to the masses.
  • Select and describe two (2) economic policy issues your campaign is advocating.
  • Why did you select these economic policy issues to focus on? Use polling data from a reputable polling source such as pew research to support your decision.
  • For each economic policy issue write a simple one sentence “elevator pitch” that you would use to easily communicate your position to the masses.
  • Select and describe two (2) foreign policy issues your campaign is advocating.
  • Why did you select these foreign issues to focus on? Use polling data from a reputable polling source such as pew research to support your decision.
  • For each foreign policy issue write a simple one sentence “elevator pitch” that you would use to easily communicate your position to the masses.

Part 3: Your Strategy

Considering the electoral college vote, which specific states would you campaign in. Keep in mind you have limited resources and that you can’t campaign in every state. Think about what states you would need to win in order to win the general election. Based on historical data, do you actually have a chance to win. Would you be able secure enough electoral votes to win the general election by these states.

To help you think about this part of the assignment you may want to find online and play with an “Interactive Electoral College Map.” Here are some website that you could use to help:

Developing A School-Based Testing Battery – Excelsior Writers | excelsiorwriters.com
Excelsior Writers | excelsiorwriters.com

For this paper, you will place yourself in the role of a consulting psychologist who has been asked to develop a process to identify elementary school students in need of academic intervention and special education services. In 10–12 pages, you will make recommendations regarding the selection of tests at the prereferral level, as well as provide rationale for your selections.

Scenario

Suppose you are employed as a consulting psychologist by a school system. They need your assistance with developing a process to identify elementary school students in need of academic intervention and special education services. You are asked to make recommendations regarding the selection of tests at the prereferral level. The tests would be administered to all students (prior to referring to special education), in order to identify those students who are performing below grade level in reading, and are in need academic intervention.

Some students have already received reading intervention, but are not making progress. So, you are also asked to recommend a battery of tests to determine whether each of these students has a learning disability and is need of special education services.

Based on the suggested resources and additional scholarly sources you have located, write a paper that addresses the requests prompted by this scenario. You are encouraged to refer to scholarly sources from the Capella library to complete your research. The Mental Measurements Yearbook Database is a recommended source of information on applicable tests. (Use the Capella University Library: Psychology Databases link in the Resources to access the Mental Measurements Yearbook Database.)

Complete all three parts of the assessment below:

Part One: Prereferral Assessment

Identify the standardized and/or nonstandardized (criterion-based) test(s) you would administer to all students, in order to identify those in need of reading intervention. Consider the points outlined below as you make your selections. Once you have located your test(s), you may use test publisher Web sites as sources to find out additional information about them.

Write an explanation of your test selection(s), addressing the following points for each test you have chosen:

  • What examiner qualifications are needed to administer the test?
  • What school staff in a typical elementary school will be qualified to administer the test?
  • What is the estimated time it will take to administer and score the test?
  • What does the test measure?
  • Does the test provide adequate information for you to determine which students are in need of reading intervention?
  • What are the psychometric properties of the test (reliability, validity, and norms)?
  • Are there any concerns about test bias and fairness with specific populations?
  • How will you use technology in the administration, scoring, and/or interpretation of your test? What ethical principles concerning the use of this technology should you consider?
  • Based upon the test results, what criteria will you use to determine which students are in need of reading intervention?

Part Two: Special Education Assessment

For Part Two of this assessment, make your recommendations for those students who are not making reading progress despite receiving intervention. Select a battery of tests to determine which students may be in need of special education services due to a possible specific learning disability in reading. Based on your research, address the following:

  • What criteria will you use to determine when students are not making progress despite receiving reading intervention?
  • What standardized cognitive (intelligence) test(s) will you use to assist you in assessing the presence of a learning disability?
  • What standardized neuropsychological test (if any) will you use to assist you in assessing the presence of a learning disability? If you do not select a neuropsychological test as part of your assessment battery, provide a rationale including the advantages and disadvantages of using such a test in a school setting.
  • What standardized educational achievement test will you use to assess reading skills?
  • For each test you select as part of your battery, provide a rationale for selecting the test by considering the following:
    • Intended purpose.
    • Intended age ranges.
    • Examiner qualifications and cost (you may use the test publisher’s Web site as a source).
    • Time and ease of administration.
    • Use of technology (consider availability).
    • Psychometric properties (norms, reliability, and validity).
    • Test bias and fairness.

Part Three: NASP Professional Standards

Everyone,

Explain how immigration affected America toward the end of the nineteenth and beginning of the twentieth centuries, especially in the cities, and describe the typical immigrant experience.

Discuss the events that drew the United States into World War I. To what extent did ethnicity play a role in America’s neutrality from1914-1917? How significant was America’s contribution to the war effort? Elaborate

Everyone,

One of the mis-often understood pieces of information in history is the idea of “American Imperialism”…I know what most revisionist historians say about this that we were an Imperial nation……but later this week I am going to dispel this myth, because this is what it really is….a Myth in history, and myths are seldom reality and too many historians and teachers get this wrong!!!

Everyone,

I thought I would mention to all of you something that often occurs with doing a web based researched reference. Never…Never…just give me the web address as this tells the reader nothing from where you drew your material from. Instead try doing the following:

Authors name (if possible), then the title of the article you used, then the date it was posted (if it is there), then the web address and Finally….the date you accessed it.

This is the proper way to format a web reference and if you have any questions….email me.
